February Newsletter
Thanks so much for the items you sent in for our box to send to our soldier in Afghanistan. I’m sure Capt. Hillman and his troops will appreciate the treats and the letters the children wrote. Also, thank you for the clothing you sent. Local needy families will put them to good use.
As a finale to our penguin unit, second grade enjoyed a visit from Captain Cook, the main character in Mr. Popper’s Penguins. Now the children will begin to work on their own version of Mr. Popper’s Penguins II.
Soon we will begin a new reading unit entitled “Fossils”. The children are looking forward to their trip to the Franklin Institute on February 27 to see the new dinosaur exhibit.
In honor of Presidents’ Month, our book report this month will be to read a biography about a president. We will be writing an autobiography and doing a timeline about ourselves. (Please send in 8 pictures representing each year of your child’s life.) Their book report project will be to make a timeline of their president’s life and to write five sentences highlighting the president’s life. As a culminating activity, first and second grade will present an assembly to the entire school on February 24. Please mark your calendars.
